WhatsApp Will Stop Running on Some Apple And Android Devices From February 1

Not so long ago, Facebook, the company that owns WhatsApp, announced the end of support for some smartphones running on the Windows Phone operating system. Now it's the turn for Android and iOS phones. What are the reasons for such decisions?

Do Not Panic!

First of all, do not panic! Such decisions do not mean that the company decided to close the messenger. WhatsApp will continue to develop and improve, but not on all versions of mobile operating systems. Facebook calculated that supporting an application to work on outdated versions of operating systems is quite expensive. These resources are much more efficiently directed to the development of the project and adaptation of the messenger for new versions of operating systems.

!!! From now on, developers are no longer supporting WhatsApp on the following platforms:

  • iOS 7.0 or older;
  • Android 2.3.7 and older.

Note that support ends on February 1 this year. So, you have time to prepare yourself.

What to Do?

Again, do not panic! First of all, check your current version of the operating system. If you have an iOS version higher than 7.0 or Android more than 2.3.7, you don't have to do anything. Otherwise, update your operating systems to the newest one. You can do it in Settings on your mobile device.

Do you think this decision of the company is right? How often do you update your phone?
